Music Ministry Opportunities

“Throughout the centuries the Church has fostered the art of music in its liturgical prayer. Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance.”
(taken from Liturgical Music Today and Music In Catholic Worship)

Grounded in this notion, that music is essential to the life of the liturgy, our Resurrection Music Ministry focuses on leading the people of God in prayer and song. Our music spans from Chant and traditional hymnody to the contemporary and world music of our Church today. Our various choirs are non-audition ensembles, open to all, from 2nd grade through adulthood who love music and want to share their gifts with our parish community, while the roles of cantors and instrumentalists require both audition and training sessions. Read on to find out more about each group within our music ministry family:

Children’s Choir is open to all young people in 2nd through 6th grades who love to sing and would like to be more involved in our parish liturgies and for various musical outings and opportunities within the larger community. Children’s Choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings (September to May) from 5:30-6:15pm in the Worship Space and sings for various parish Masses throughout the year, including the 4pm on Christmas Eve and the 12noon on Easter Sunday. We will also sing at Stratford Commons Nursing Home in January as well as other opportunities that arise throughout the year. (2016-2017 Choir Season “Kick-off” is Tuesday, September 20th from 5:30-6:15pm in Trivison Hall. We’ll have a Welcome Pizza Party, so come join us and bring a friend!)

Teen Choir is open to all youth in 7th through 12th grades who love to sing or play an instrument and would like to be more involved in our parish liturgies and for various musical outings and opportunities within the larger community. We will rehearse and sing at the parish for one Mass a month, including the 6pm Christmas Eve Liturgy. (2016-2017 Choir Season “Kick-Off” will be in early October. Specific dates and details TBA)

Our Resurrection Adult Choir is open to young adults and adults from college to 100+! We rehearse each Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:30pm in the Worship Space from September to May and lead song on a rotating schedule at the three weekend liturgies as well as for all Feasts and Holy Day celebrations. Please contact Julie Parrotta, OR just join us in the Music area of the Worship Space on Tuesdays as we sing a joyful song to the Lord. (Our 2016- 2017 Choir Season will begin with a welcome potluck on Tuesday, September 13th at 7pm in Trivison Hall. All are welcome!)

There is a certain level of liturgical and musical competency necessary for cantors and instrumentalists, and therefore these are auditioned ministerial roles. The opportunity is open to anyone age 13 and older. If you are interested in becoming a cantor or instrumentalist for Mass and other celebrations, please contact Julie Parrotta to set up an individual audition and training session.

The Resurrection Funeral Choir is open to anyone with a love of music and comprehension and comfort with the general repertoire of hymns here at Resurrection. There is no additional rehearsal requirement other than arriving 30 minutes prior to the funeral Mass for warm-up. This is a beautiful way to bring the gift and comfort of music ministry to others with minimal commitment. Please contact Julie Parrotta if you would like your email to be added to the contact list for funerals and memorial Masses.
