Children’s Liturgy of the Word refers to the practice of children (pre-school through 2nd grade) leaving the Sunday Mass during the Liturgy of the Word and gathering elsewhere to celebrate a separate Liturgy of the Word that is more appropriate to their level of understanding. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word follows the same structure as the adult liturgy: Old Testament Reading, Responsorial Psalm, New Testament Reading, Gospel Acclamation, Gospel Proclamation, reflection and interactive discussion led by the children’s minister of the Word, Creed and Prayer of the Faithful. Children rejoin the congregation for the presentation of the gifts.
