The Bishops of the Second Vatican Council, in their document on Christian education, state that parents are the first and foremost catechists of their children. They teach informally, but powerfully, by example and instruction. The role of the parish in instructing the faith to our children is one of shared responsibility with the family. Formal religion classes provide instruction that builds on the lived faith of the students within his or her family. The teachers and staff of our Parish School of Religion educate in a classroom setting using catechetical instruction, stimulating activities, discussion, Christian witness, prayer, and love.
Information about preparation of children and youth for the sacraments of confirmation and reconciliation can be found at Sacraments.
