“Throughout the centuries the Church has fostered the art of music in its liturgical prayer. Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance.”
(taken from Liturgical Music Today and Music In Catholic Worship)

Grounded in this notion, that music is essential to the life of the liturgy, our Resurrection Music Ministry focuses on leading the people of God in prayer and song. Our music spans from Chant and traditional hymnody to the contemporary and world music of our Church today. Our various choirs are non-audition ensembles, open to all, from 2nd grade through adulthood who love music and want to share their gifts with our parish community, while the roles of cantors and instrumentalists require both audition and training sessions. Read on to find out more about each group within our music ministry family:

General Music Ministry

General Music Ministry rehearsals are open to any and everyone who would like to participate in Music Ministry at the weekend liturgies. Rehearsals are generally on the last Tuesday of the month (September to May) from 7:00-8:30pm in the Worship Space. (See schedule for specific dates) Each rehearsal will primarily focus on music for the Saturday 5:30pm and Sunday 9am and 11am Masses. If you’re interested in becoming a part of music ministry, leading song at our regularly scheduled Masses, but don’t wish to commit to the chorale, children’s choir or RTC Music Ministry then plan on joining us as we continue to build regular ensembles to lead the vocal and instrumental music at the various Masses each weekend. The time commitment is a -monthly rehearsal and dedication to a various Mass time (Saturday 5:30pm Vigil, Sunday 9am and 11am) with 30-minute warm-up time before the liturgy each weekend.

Chorale

Resurrection Chorale is open to all young adults and adults who love to sing and particularly want to work on choral music outside of our regular hymnody. Rehearsals are generally on Tuesdays (October to May) from 7:00-8:30pm in the Worship Space. You are welcome to join chorale for the entire year or for a season at a time. The time commitment is usually a 2-3 rehearsals a month and dedication to the various holiday and holy day liturgies, as well as occasionally scheduled chorale Masses and their warm-up times beforehand.

Cantors and Instrumentalists

There is a certain level of liturgical and musical competency necessary for cantors and instrumentalists, and therefore these are auditioned ministerial roles. The opportunity is open to anyone age 13 and older. If you are interested in becoming a cantor or instrumentalist for Mass and other celebrations, please contact Julie Tragon to set up an individual audition and training session.

Funeral Choir

The Resurrection Funeral Choir is open to anyone with a love of music and comprehension and comfort with the general repertoire of hymns here at Resurrection. There is no additional rehearsal requirement other than arriving 30 minutes prior to the funeral Mass for warm-up. This is a beautiful way to bring the gift and comfort of music ministry to others with minimal commitment. Please contact Julie Tragon if you would like your email to be added to the contact list for funerals and memorial Masses.
